Taiwan-Japan Higher Education Exchange: President of University of the Ryukyus Visits Providence University to Deepen DEI and Female Leadership

The partnership between Providence University and its Japanese sister school, the University of the Ryukyus, reached a significant milestone today as leaders from both institutions met to discuss the future of university governance and social impact.

 

President Ikue Kina of the University of the Ryukyus led a high-level delegation focused on gender equality and diversity to the Providence University campus. They were personally received by PU President Lucia Shih-Ling Lin. The two leaders engaged in a profound dialogue regarding their respective experiences in promoting DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) within higher education, showcasing a shared global vision for inclusive campus management.

 

Providence University: A Model for Private Institutions in Female Leadership

Since establishing sister-school ties in 2020, the two universities have fostered a vibrant exchange, with over 30 students participating in cross-border learning programs. A primary objective of this visit was for the University of the Ryukyus to gather insights for its "Global Leader Development Program."

During the meeting, President Kina highlighted a stark contrast in leadership statistics:While the proportion of female presidents in Japanese national universities stands at approximately 4.9%,The ratio of female administrators at Providence University has reached an impressive 39.68%.This data underscores the rising influence of female leadership at Providence University, establishing the school as a benchmark for private institutions. The two parties shared leadership methodologies and exchanged ideas on how to foster more inclusive academic environments.

 

Campus Tour Highlights "Human-Centered" Values

The delegation also toured the campus, visiting the iconic Our Lady of Providence Chapel and the university library. The visitors expressed high praise for the campus’s aesthetic beauty and its "human-centered" learning atmosphere, which prioritizes the well-being and spiritual growth of students.

 

President Lucia Shih-Ling Lin emphasized that this exchange transcends the mere sharing of administrative experience; it represents a resonance of transnational values. She expressed her hope that the two universities will continue to collaborate in internationalized university governance, creating mutually beneficial outcomes for the future.
