【Japan Summer Study Program】Now Open for Application! 2025 Summer Program at the University of the Ryukyus(Application Deadline Extended to July 2)
1. Program Overview
This summer program invites students from partner universities in Taiwan to join Japanese students in learning about “Sustainable Development Rooted in Local Communities.” Through a combination of lectures and fieldwork, students will gain practical knowledge in areas such as renewable energy, the environment, welfare, and symbiosis.
This program is jointly organized with the “2025 Inter-Island Sustainability Educational Program,” a project under the Ministry of Education’s Top Global University initiative. Participants will explore regional issues in Okinawa while engaging in group discussions and presentations with students from the University of the Ryukyus and partner universities in Hawaii. The goal is to develop multi-perspective thinking and comprehensive problem-solving skills.
2. Program Dates
August 13 (Wednesday) – August 22 (Friday), 2025 (10 days in total)
3. Eligibility (Applicants must meet all of the following conditions):
Currently enrolled undergraduate students from the universities listed in [2. Target Institutions] and officially nominated by their university (excluding students on leave of absence, etc.).
Able to fully participate in both the pre-/post-program activities and the entire program schedule.
Interested in and committed to learning about Okinawa and Pacific island regions, and willing to actively communicate with Japanese students. No Japanese language ability required.
Since English is the primary language of instruction, applicants must be able and willing to communicate in English.
Must intend to complete their degree at their current university after the program (students planning to withdraw or be dismissed are ineligible).
Participants must purchase overseas travel insurance upon confirmation of participation.
4. Number of Nominees
Each university may nominate 2 or more students.
5. Language of Instruction
The main language of instruction will be English, with supplementary use of Chinese and Japanese as needed.
6. Application Method
■ On-Campus Application Deadline:
Initial deadline: June 18, 2025 (Wednesday)
Extended deadline: July 2, 2025 (Wednesday)
On-campus screening date: July 3, 2025 (Thursday) (details will be announced separately)

On-campus document submission deadline: June 18, 2025 (Extended to July 2)
University nomination deadline: June 20, 2025 (Extended to July 4 for second-round recruitment)
Participant announcement: Mid-July via email from the University of the Ryukyus to each institution
■ Program Fee:
45,000 JPY per participant – payable to the University of the Ryukyus
NTD 3,000 registration fee – payable to Providence University (only for those officially admitted by the University of the Ryukyus after campus review)
